Welcome to Zelda Answers. What would you like to know?

Majora's mask had some pretty strong motifs, so 1 on my list, TP would have to be 2, and wind waker for 3 ThatsNotCanon 12:04, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Nothing official, although Majora's Mask is clearly the darkest in the series. Here is my top five darkest games in the Zelda Series:

  • Majora's Mask
  • Twilight Princess
  • Oracle of Ages
  • Ocarina of Time
  • Zelda II: Adventure of Link

Majora's Mask for obvious reasons. Twilight Princess did somethings right when they tried to make it more mature. Oracle of Ages because of the slavery of the entire populace by a Queen possessed of the Sorceress of Shadows. Ocarina of Time just because of what happened to Hyrule in the future, and the Castle Town was full of walking corpses. Zelda II: Adventure of Link, mainly because if you died, it was told in that the minions of Ganon used Link's blood to sprinkle across Ganon's remains in order to bring him to life. To the asker, what do you mean by 'dark'? Did you mean dark as in depressing, or dark as in just plain 'dark'. Peronsally, I didn't find MM to fit either of these. Sure, the Moon had an insane face and threatened to destroy the land, but the music seemed pretty happy, and the storyline, with you working to save the land, and the ending was pretty happy. I'd say WW, because in the end, Hyrule is destroyed, and your companion drowns, and Link leaves his family to search for a new land. Seems pretty depressing to me. I'm not trying to impose my opinion on others - also, I'm sort of a person who likes 'dark' things (as in shadowy, not dpressing), which is probably why I love TP and MM.

^ Just the pure amount of deaths in Majora's Mask, shows how dark of a game it was. An entire land ruled by the dead (Ikana), a blizzard-ensued mountain of never-ceasing winter, threatening to eventually kill all the inhabitants of it's land (Snowhead). Yes, the moon crash doesn't canonically happen, but you know what will happen if you don't quicken your pace, or if you, yourself, die. Everyone in that land will be dead, and some of the inhabitants of that land refuse to attempt to save themselves. It's the absolute hopelessness that surrounds Majora's Mask that makes it dark...I hope I'm not seeming like I'm trying to force everyone to my opinion, I'm just trying to show everyone how Majora's Mask is indeed a dark game...Timelinesplitter 22:38, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
